Does it hurt?

Most patients do not find acupuncture painful.  However, responses vary depending on patient sensitivity and the level of treatment provided. If you have any concerns, or have never had an acupuncture session, please speak with your practitioner.

Are there immediate results?

Patients often feel a noticeable difference after one acupuncture treatment.  However, healing is a process which takes place over time.

How does acupuncture make you feel?

Patients typically feel a sense of well-being, calmness and increased energy.

How many treatments will I need?

It is difficult to predict the number of treatments needed.  It depends on the patient’s response to acupuncture and the severity and longevity of the problem.

How long does a typical session take?

You should budget an hour and a half; two hours for your first session.

What does a session entail?

Your session will start with intake — a review of your health information, thorough discussion of your health issue, and extensive exam and evaluation.  It will be followed by an acupuncture treatment.

Subsequent sessions will include assessment of your progress, including a pulse reading, tongue diagnosis and palpation (hands-on assessment of specific areas of concern), followed by treatment.

Each acupuncture session typically includes one or two sets of needling and 15 minutes of focused body work.

Will treatment include Chinese herbs?

Herbs are an integral component of Chinese Medicine, often speeding up or facilitating the healing process.  Our practitioners can recommend herbs to complement your acupuncture regime.  We have certain formulae on site and can also suggest appropriate products for your health needs that can be purchased online.

How much does it cost?

Initial appointment (Examination/Evaluation/Treatment):

$75 - $150 (depending on practitioner)

Follow-up appointments (Evaluation/Management Treatment):

$60 - $120 (depending on practitioner)

Sliding scale rates are available for some practitioners.  Please discuss you financial needs prior to making an appointment.

Do you take insurance?

Please check with your insurance company to make sure acupuncture is covered by your policy.  If so, you will be asked to provide insurance information with your intake form.    Blue Lotus tries to make your insurance work for you.  We have a health insurance specialist on staff to process claims and resolve insurance problems.
